More than other years, I have been contemplating my practices for this Lenten season. Like many of you, I am most familiar with giving up something as a gesture that recognizes the suffering of Christ.
This year I feel a bit as if I’m “cheating” as I don’t plan to abstain from anything particular. Instead, I plan to indulge even deeper into something I quite love—stained-glass.
Specifically, the plan is to spend my morning coffee time exploring a scene of the cross as depicted through a stained-glass window—studying the details of the imagery as well as the story portrayed in the window. This Lent, it is my hope to sit in both the beauty of the stained-glass and the harshness of the cross.
Below is the stained-glass window that launched my 2026 Lenten journey. The window is in the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, the church bombed in 1963 by white supremacists, killing four young girls. The production of this window came as a restorative response to this act of brutality.

During Lent, may you reckon with both brokenness and beauty.

Educating Parents around TfT at Foothill Christian School
In an intentional effort to partner with, and empower, their parent community, the leadership team at Foothill Christian School have created Parent University. The school describes Parent University as “a group of seminars/classes hosted by experts in the fields of parenting and child development that address relevant issues and give you, as parents, tangible ways to help your children and strengthen your families.”
Parent University’s fourth episode educates parents on the Teaching for Transformation (TfT) framework. Many TfT schools wonder about how to educate parents about TfT; this video from Foothill Christian may catalyze some ideas.

TfT Winter Masterclass in session: Storyboards
As this is TfT’s first attempt offering Masterclasses during the school year, we wanted to provide an update. The Storyboard Winter Masterclass has focused on deepening TfT practices by intentionally inviting students into the storyboarding process.
We’ve reflected on the idea that a storyboard cannot thrive without a Deep Hope that is genuinely owned and internalized by both teachers and students. When that foundation is in place, the storyboard becomes a meaningful picture of the learning journey rather than simply a display of activities. Our Masterclass participants would like to share some of their storyboarding work to inspire you!

Celebration of Learning at Central Christian
Recently, Diane Hannay, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Central Christian School, shared that the kindergarten through fifth-grade students and teachers have been richly impacted by the influence of TfT in classroom instruction. In January 2026, teachers reframed an existing elementary-wide unit to explicitly align with TfT.
To share these TfT learning stories with the broader CCS community, each class hosted its own Celebration of Learning, inviting parents and community members to engage with students as they shared their work. These events are stepping stones to a school-wide Celebration of Learning next year.
To further capture the impact of these Celebrations of Learning, we invite you to explore a recap with photos, as well as a folder of videos highlighting student work and engagement.

FLEx Cards: Celebrating Intermountain Christian School
When invited to share about TfT at the school gala, Intermountain Christian School's TfT Coordinator, Amy Florell, chose to design a FLEx that visually revealed how TfT is lived out in classrooms each day. Partnering with two ICS alumni skilled in video production, she captured and shared the stories of participating teachers. Florell’s Deep Hope—that educators will grow in confidence and joy as they design learning deeply rooted in God’s story—came to life through the teachers’ testimonies, reflections, and concrete examples of practice.

Opening Circles with the Throughlines
Today’s Opening Circle resources are a collection of readings on idolatry discerning. Because idolatry discerning can be a challenging Throughline to understand, consider using more than one reading for learner engagement and discussion. Offering more than one avenue into this beautiful Throughline will deepen learners’ engagement and ability to practice it in their own lives.
